Camondo Stairs
A beautiful 19th-century staircase in Galata, built by the wealthy Camondo family. It's a quiet, elegant piece of history connecting two streets.
“To see a beautifully designed, historic staircase that feels like a secret in the middle of the city.”
See the exact spot on the map at right. The highlighted pin clearly marks this stop.
These stairs were built in the 19th century by the Camondo family, a prominent banking dynasty, on Bankalar Caddesi in Galata. They're a fine example of the era's architecture, with a graceful, curved design that's more about aesthetics than just function.
It's a quick stop, not a destination. You'll find it while wandering the backstreets of Karaköy and Galata. It's a peaceful spot to take a photo and appreciate a small, well-crafted piece of the city's past, away from the main crowds.
Combine it with a walk down Bankalar Caddesi to see the old bank buildings, then head up to Galata Tower.
The site is a staircase with many steps; there is no step-free or ramp access.
